Named Scholarship Guidelines - Nov. 2024
Named scholarships are in the amount of $500, $750, $1,000 or $1,500. The donor provides a description of the scholarship, may or may not establish criteria for the scholarship, and may give more than one scholarship. The donor or designee may present the scholarship at the May Senior Awards Assembly.
Students fill out one application for all Newton Dollars for Scholars scholarships. A committee scores the applications and rank orders them. The highest scoring applicant receives the largest scholarship. Each successful applicant will receive one named scholarship and a $1.000 Red Pride Scholarship funded by Dollars for Scholars. All students will also receive a 2nd Year Red Pride Scholarship of $1,500. In other words, a named scholarship of $500 can amount to $3,000 for the student! Payments are made by Newton Dollars for Scholars to the college for the student's account.
Named scholarships may be funded annually by a donation or through the establishment of an endowment through Newton Dollars for Scholars. If an endowment is established, the scholarship will be given each year with no additional contribution necessary.
A $10,000 contribution will fund one endowed $500 scholarship, a $15,000 contribution a $750 scholarship, and a $20,000 contribution a $1,000 scholarship.
